Tarangire National Park

The Land of Giants and Gentle Giants

Discover the charm of Tarangire National Park, a hidden gem in northern Tanzania celebrated for its majestic baobab trees, rich wildlife, and the largest elephant herds in the country. Located just a few hours’ drive from Arusha, Tarangire offers a quieter, more intimate safari experience compared to its more famous neighbours.

What Makes Tarangire Special?

  • Elephants in Abundance: During the dry season (June–October), massive herds of elephants—sometimes over 300 strong—gather along the Tarangire River, creating one of Africa’s greatest elephant spectacles.

  • Iconic Baobab Trees: Scattered across the park, these ancient, towering trees are a defining feature of the landscape and offer an unforgettable backdrop for your safari photos.

  • Diverse Wildlife: From lions, leopards, and cheetahs to giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, and buffaloes, the park is teeming with life. Rare species like the fringed-eared oryx and gerenuk also call Tarangire home.

  • Birdwatcher’s Paradise: With over 550 bird species, including colorful bee-eaters, hornbills, and kingfishers, it’s one of East Africa’s top birding destinations.

When to Visit Tarangire

Tarangire is a fantastic destination year-round, but the dry season (June to October) offers the highest concentration of wildlife around the river and waterholes. The green season (November to May) brings lush landscapes and excellent birdwatching.
