Established in 1952, the Serengeti National Park is home to possibly the greatest and most impressive spectacle on earth – the great migration of wildebeest and zebra as they move from the Northern Hills to the Southern Plains for the short rains each October. Of course, that is not all that the park has to offer, with a resident population of lions, cheetahs, giraffes and elephants, there is something for everyone to see. There is no danger of feeling crowded either with an area covering 5,700 sq miles, there is plenty of room for even the most antisocial of visitors!
The Serengeti ecosystem is one of the oldest on earth, with evidence that early man made an appearance in Olduvai Gorge over two million years ago. With the climate, flora and fauna scarcely changing in over a million years, you can really feel a sense of escape in the Serengeti, that you don’t get anywhere else in the world.
